Dufalac is a transparent syrup of a viscous consistency. The color of the drug varies: it is colorless or yellowish with a brownish tinge. Lactulose is an active component of the drug, the role of an auxiliary ingredient is allocated to water. The medication is sold:
- In 15 ml bags. In the boxes is 10 pieces.
- In polyethylene bottles with the volume of 200, 500 and 1000 ml.
Dufalac belongs to the category of non-prescription drugs. Store it in places with a temperature of 10-250 C, protected from penetration of light, not accessible to children.
Due to the osmotic action of the laxative drug, intestinal motility stimulation is stimulated. The ability of the agent to hyperosmotic effect allows calcium compounds and phosphates to be easily absorbed, and ammonium to be excreted.
The microflora formed in the intestine decomposes the active ingredient of the medicament, lactulose, into a number of organic acids, causing a decrease in pH and an increase in the osmotic pressure. Why the volume of contents of intestines increases, its peristalsis is strengthened. As a result, the consistency of the feces changes - softens, and in the colon the restoration of the physiological rhythm associated with its emptying takes place.
In people suffering from hepatic encephalopathy or hepatic precoma, the effectiveness of the remedy is due to the fact that it creates an environment in the intestine that does not favor proteolytic bacteria( their development and reproduction).Due to Dufalac in the intestine, the growth of colonies formed by acidophilic bacteria is observed.
The contents of the intestine are acidified, which allows ammonia to transform into an ionic form. As a result, the pH of the intestine decreases, the osmotic effect occurs, the concentration of toxic nitrogen-containing compounds decreases( their formation is impeded by microorganisms that are capable of utilizing ammonia related to bacterial protein synthesis), the contents of the intestines are exported naturally. In addition, the drug suppresses the development of salmonella, shortens the time of isolation of bacteria.
Pharmacokinetics and drug interaction
The laxative has a low absorption. It, almost without being absorbed, reaches the large intestine, in which it undergoes splitting under the influence of microflora. If the dose does not exceed 45-70 ml, the drug is fully metabolized.
At high dosages, a portion of the lactulose is excreted without being altered.
Assigning the use of enteric medicines( such as 5-aminosalicylic acid), in which pH-dependent release, along with Dufalac, take into account the properties of lactulose. It reduces the pH of the environment in the intestines, and therefore, contributes to a change in the release of prescribed medications.
- With constipation. To bring to normal the physiological rhythm necessary for the process of releasing the intestines from their contents.
- To soften the stool. This is relevant for hemorrhoids, operations performed on the intestine or anus.
- With hepatic encephalopathy. The medicine is prevented and treated by a hepatic coma and an ancestor.
- For getting rid of enteritis, provoked by dangerous microorganisms.
- In order to suppress salmonellosis at a time when the patient is a bacterial carrier.
- To eliminate the syndrome of putrefactive dyspepsia, which affects children suffering from serious food poisoning.
- In order to treat dysbiosis.
Medication not prescribed:
- Patient with galactosemia.
- To people who have an intestinal obstruction.
- To those who are not able to tolerate lactose, galactose and fructose.
- Patients with hypersensitivity to Dufalac's ingredients.
- Syrup cautiously prescribed to diabetics.
To get rid of constipation, the instruction for the use of DuPhalac for each age group prescribes its dosage, which facilitates the dilution of feces.
- Adult patients with an initial volume of 15-45 ml, supporting - 10-25 ml;
- for children 7-14 years old - 15 ml and 10 ml respectively;
- for children 3-6 years old - in both cases 5-10 ml is prescribed;
- for children under 3 years - not more than 5 ml is recommended.
Dosage is reduced on the 3rd day of use, taking into account the needs of the patient. The syrup is drunk once a day, in the morning hours at the same time as food. The clinical effect is achieved in a day or two. Increase in the dose is advisable if on the third day of using the laxative in the patient's condition there are no shifts to improvement.
A patient with a hepatic coma or a pre-syrup is given three times a day, measuring 30-45 ml. For maintenance dosage, the volume of the drug is determined individually. The amount of the drug should promote the appearance of a two-three-fold chair in 24 hours, and the pH of the bowel movements can not exceed 5.0-5.5.
In case of severe disease, medicinal solutions are prepared for enemas: 300 ml of the drug are poured into 700 ml water.
Patients with dysbacteriosis drink syrup, adhering to such daily dosages: adults and children from 7 years - 10 ml;children 4-7 years - 5 ml;children 1-3 years - 3 ml;Infants - 1.5-3 ml.
Side effects and overdose
In the first days of syrup use, the digestive system can respond with a flatulence that disappears after 2 days spontaneously. Sometimes it provokes nausea and vomiting. High dosage can cause diarrhea and tenderness of the abdomen. Remove the unpleasant sensations by an individual dosage adjustment.
Long-term use and increased dosage, used in the complex therapy of hepatic encephalopathy, is accompanied by diarrhea, leading to electrolyte imbalance.
Overdose with DuPhalac is not fixed. High dosages lead to diarrhea and abdominal pain. After stopping the intake of syrup or lowering the dose, unpleasant symptoms disappear.
Features of application of
If the therapeutic effect does not occur on the third day or the constipation resumes after the treatment course, you should visit a doctor. Special caution requires the appointment of the drug to people with diabetes. Such circumspection is important if they have to treat hepatic encephalopathy( the dose prescribed at this is quite high).It is much larger than the one used to eliminate constipation.
Long-term intake of syrup( over half a year) in high dosage requires regular monitoring of the level of electrolytes( salts) that saturate blood plasma.
Assigning a remedy for lactose deficiency, it is considered that 15 ml of the remedy include lactose( 0.9 g) and galactose( 1.5 g).
The drug leaves unchanged the psychomotor reactions of a person. After receiving the syrup, he can drive a car, operate a machine and work on machinery.
Dufalac for pregnant, lactating and children
Rational nutrition and consumption of products enriched with lacto- and bifidobacteria - natural prevention of dysbiosis and constipation. Thanks to the vital activity of useful microorganisms, lactic acid is synthesized in the intestine and attracts water to its cavity.
In therapeutic treatment of constipation and restoration of intestinal microflora to normal in pregnant and newborns( as in all children), it is advisable to use lactulose, the active substance of Dufalac. Lactulose is not found in nature, it is synthesized by subjecting it to "whey whey" or "reverse" by heat treatment, and is obtained from milk when making cheeses.
It follows that the syrup is a medicinal product of natural origin. He is safely prescribed to pregnant, nursing and babies from the moment of birth. The effect of lactulose is similar to that of "bifidus factor", a special component of breast milk.
Dufalac has a structure that does not undergo cleavage by enzymes that fill the digestive tract. The drug, without changing, reaches the large intestine, where it feeds useful bacteria. Colonies of microorganisms, feeding on lactulose, actively multiply and suppress harmful microbes.
The drug does not penetrate the bloodstream, so it does not reach the developing fetus, therefore, it does not adversely affect its health. Components of the syrup are processed not by the body, but by bacteria that colonize the intestinal space, which determines its absolute safety. Lactulose is not able to be split and absorbed. Therefore, the drug is prescribed regardless of the period of pregnancy and at the time of breastfeeding.
Increase the content of the intestine, increase peristalsis, restore the natural balance of microflora and the capacity of the intestines to help inflow fluid. The medicine is delicately, without causing damage to health, cleans the intestines, in the same way as natural dietary fibers.
Thanks to Dufalac, women have problems with defecation during pregnancy and the baby is born with a natural intestinal microflora. Because children perfectly tolerate the drug, it is prescribed even to the newborn. The main thing is to choose the right individual dosage.
Medication does not interfere with the absorption of vitamins and nutrients. Addiction to this laxative is not found. Therefore, he is prescribed courses and heals( if necessary) patients for a long time.
