Magnetotherapy in the treatment of osteochondrosis: efficacy and contraindications

Magnetotherapy for osteochondrosis is a special physiotherapy technique based on the effect of magnetic fields on the human body and recommended for use in therapeutic and prophylactic purposes.

During the treatment with a magnet, the circulation stimulates the supply of cells with nutrients and oxygen( provided that they are contained in the blood in the required quantities), as well as rapid elimination of toxins.

It should be noted that the method of magnetotherapy has been known to mankind since ancient times, however, with the advent of the era of drug medicines, this method was forgotten. Magnetic therapy was reopened in the middle of the last century in the course of space research, which showed what happens in the human body when it is only for a short time in the zone of the Earth's magnetic field. At the same time, there was an effect of improving blood circulation and an intensive release of oxygen by hemoglobin of blood, both with a constant and with an alternating magnetic field.

How magnetotherapy affects human energy

Specialists involved in the study of magnetotherapy, note that with the correct application of magnets in the field of influence or on the meridians, the body's energy state is significantly improved. In this case, the magnetic field affects not only the physical, but also the psycho-emotional state of the patient.

The nervous system is very sensitive to the action of magnets. Thanks to the magnetic field, chronic pain is eliminated, blood flow is accelerated, a vasodilator effect is noted, and the work of the coagulating system of blood is normalized.

Magnetotherapy for osteochondrosis

Magnetotherapy is a technique that has found its wide application in the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system. It should be noted that she has virtually no contraindications. In the treatment of osteochondrosis, magnetotherapy is used not only in combination with other types of conservative therapeutic techniques, but also as an independent treatment procedure.

When carrying out magnetotherapy, the pain syndrome in the tissues surrounding the affected vertebral bodies is quickly stopped, the edema decreases and normal mobility is restored.

Under the influence of a low-frequency magnetic field, the vessels expand( in the affected area), the viscosity of the blood decreases, gas exchange and nutrition of damaged tissues improves, and anti-inflammatory, anti-edema and analgesic effects occur.

It should be noted that magnetotherapy for osteochondrosis can be used both in the period of remission( both maintenance therapy) and in aggravation of the process.

The magnetic field helps to reduce the tone of paravertebral muscles, and also compensates for neurovascular disorders. After bringing the vascular tone back to normal, the circulatory process is restored and the degeneration of the intervertebral discs slows down.

During the exacerbation of osteochondrosis, the anesthetic effect of magnetotherapy is due to a decrease in the sensitivity of peripheral nerves and the receptor apparatus. After completing the course of these physiotherapeutic procedures, patients notice a significant improvement in the condition, and complaints that are characteristic of this pathological process also disappear.

Magnetotherapy session

For special physiotherapy sessions of magnetic therapy special devices are used, which are used in combination with inducers in the form of a solenoid, as well as with inductor-applicators. Inductors, in the form of a solenoid, are exposed to virtually all tissues of the human body within the solenoid. When using inductor applicators, the depth of the magnetic field is 3 to 4 centimeters.

It should be noted that the choice of depth of influence is strictly individual and is determined by a specialist for each specific case.

A very active technique of magnetic therapy is the rotating magnetic field technique. For this procedure, the patient is placed in a special apparatus around which a magnetic field is created, constantly changing its direction.

Dosage and duration of the course are also selected individually. As a rule, it is recommended to undergo 10 to 15 procedures for complete treatment( every day or every other day for 25 minutes).Such courses are repeated after a month and a half to fix the effect, and after - again in six months.

The therapeutic effect after one procedure of magnetotherapy is preserved up to six days, and after the entire course is completed - up to one and a half months.

Contraindications for magnetoterapy

Before proceeding with magnetotherapy procedures, it must be remembered that a magnetic field is capable of lowering arterial pressure, and therefore this technique is used with extreme caution in hypertensive patients, as well as in patients who are implanted with a pacemaker.

Absolute contraindications: oncological diseases, progressive benign neoplasms, mental disorders, open form of tuberculosis, fever.

Apparatus used to perform magnetotherapy

For the physical therapy of osteochondrosis with the help of magnetic therapy, a large number of different devices have been developed, with which patients can perform treatment both in a hospital and at home.

1. For the treatment of osteochondrosis, including complicated with radicular or reflex syndrome, a portable device of Russian manufacture "MAG-30" is used. The principle of operation of this device is to generate a low-frequency alternating non-uniform magnetic field, which has a therapeutic effect on the human body.

2. "AMO-ATOS" is an apparatus that generates a running magnetic field. In the process of its use, anti-inflammatory, resolving, anti-edema, immunomodulating, vasodilating and regenerative effect are observed. This device is authorized for use in hospitals and for outpatient treatment. Practically 92% of patients suffering from osteochondrosis have a positive clinical effect. It should be noted that when using the apparatus "AMO-ATOS" it is possible to combine magnetotherapy and electophoresis, since under the electrodes gauze dressings impregnated with medicinal products are allowed to be poured.

3. The device "ALIMP-1" is a state-of-the-art device with the help of which it became possible to influence a large enough area of the patient's body. Its use at relatively low values of magnetic induction makes it possible to achieve a persistent therapeutic effect.

"Alimp - 1" has proved itself well for the treatment of osteochondrosis of the thoracic and lumbar spine. At the same time, the terms of rehabilitation of patients are reduced by almost 2 times, and the remission lasts about a year and a half.

It should be noted that this is far from all magnetotherapeutic devices, which at the present stage have been successfully introduced into clinical practice.

Magnetotherapy is absolutely painless procedure, very well tolerated by patients. It does not require large expenses or the use of complex equipment. Their treatment of all physiotherapy methods by the magnetic field is the most gentle and sparing. It is perfectly tolerated even by the elderly and weakened patient, whom other procedures are contraindicated. It should also be noted that magnetic fields are able to penetrate almost any medium and surface, and therefore, their use is allowed even in the presence of gypsum, the application of ointments or other medical devices.
